I have found the following organizations and websites particularly useful.

Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB) – Umbrella society for UK radio amateurs. Provides a huge range of services including: advisory services; band planning; awards; contests; licensing; examinations; QSL bureau; beacon and repeater planning; annual convention etc.

Amateur Radio Relay League (AARL) – Umbrella society for US radio amateurs. Provides a variety of services including highly respected awards such as DXCC and an electronic logbook – Logbook of the World (LotW)

CDXC (Chiltern DX Club) – the UK’s premier amateur radio DX Foundation. Provides DXpedition funding; Digest magazine; and annual convention

ClubLog – a free web-based tool for producing DXCC league tables, expedition tools, log search services and most-wanted lists for ham radio.

BARTG (British Amateur Radio Teledata Group – UK’s premier group promoting RTTY (radio teleprinter) communications. It runs four well-attended contests a year, has an award scheme and sponsors RTTY-focussed DXpeditions

LotW – Logbook of the World – Run by ARRL, LotW is an online service that enables you to:

  • electronically submit contacts (QSOs) for confirmation
  • view your submitted QSOs and resulting confirmations online
  • view your DXCC, VUCC, WAS, WAZ and WPX award progress online
  • electronically submit confirmations for credit toward DXCC, VUCC, WAS, WAZ and WPX awards

VOACAP (Voice of America Coverage Analysis Program) – a professional HF propagation prediction program

DXMaps – real time HF and VHF propagation maps

PSK Reporter – Automatically gathers digi-mode activity. useful in understanding propagation
